The Value of the Dollar?

What Does That Even Mean?

Parents have good intentions when trying to teach the "value of the dollar," but the meaning gets lost in translation. The value of the dollar will never truly be understood without first knowing the value of your own life, and how money can serve you. For instance, an hour of your time is NOT literally worth $7.25.

Money is Valuable When Planted

Earning, budgeting, and saving your money is only half the story. You can also invest your money, and have money multiply itself. Learning how money can work for you is what truly puts the spark in its value. I can not legally give financial advice, but I can tell you to take time to research the best way to invest and multiply your money, while teaching your children to do the same. A seed's potential is only discovered once it's planted and attended to.

One Dollar Is Not a Lot of Money

Let's be honest, the value of a dollar is not much. It's best to be honest about your expenses with your children. It will force them to think about their desired level of income. This is an important reality check that working a minimum wage job is not sustainable. You have to understand the value of your life and decide ways to develop valuable skills. It's important to know your child's interests and passions, and then show them how it can translate into a profitable skill. I'm thankful that my parents nourished all of my random childhood passions, everything from paleontology to farming.

Have Fun Making Money

You are accumulating a precious resource, this should be an exhilarating feeling! Money does not feel valuable if the experience generating it is a miserable one. You are "causing" money to happen. Your value and skill is attracting money to you. I explain this further in my Time to Cause Money video.

Thank you for taking time to read this blog, and I hope you find the video helpful. Go out there and be amazing!
